Terex RT-230 Hi-Rail Crane
The Terex RT-230 rough terrain crane equipped with Mitchell Friction Drive Hi-Rail can be used as a lifting crane on rubber tires, on outriggers and on Rail.
The machine can be configured in a variety of way with a variety of booms for specific applications such as a Rail Laying Crane or a General Purpose Lifting Rail Crane.
Rail Laying Crane
To configure the machine as a rail layer, the machine should be ordered with the Terex 3 section 61 ft. boom. If the machine is going to lay rail all the time on friction drive hi-rail then the machine should be equipped with Mitchell’s standard friction drive hi-rail. If the machine is going to lay rail on rubber tires then the machine should be equipped with friction drive hi-rail and double flange guide wheels.
There are some distinct advantages laying rail on rubber tires, specifically the stability is greatly increased. When the crane operates full time on rail the stability is reduced by approximately 50% because the machine is only supported by the railroad rail that is 59 ½ inches center to center. The rubbers are 86 inches center to center with a 14 inch wide tire which provides a good footing to support for the crane.
When laying rail with double flange guide wheels the rail can be transferred directly from the shoulder and laid directly into the tie plates. The double flange guide wheels are spring loaded to deliver a force of 5000 lbs to lay the rail directly into the tie plates with the aid of a Mitchell RT-103 Ball Threader that keeps the rail low to the ground.
General Purpose Lifting Rail Crane
If the crane is going to be used to travel on rail and then be used as a general purpose lifting crane, the crane can be equipped with a Terex 72 ft boom and Friction Drive Hi-Rail.
